MLS Eastern ConferenceFounded in October 2005, Toronto Football Club started playing in MLS as an expansion team in 2007. The club is based in Toronto, Canada and competes as a member of the Eastern Conference. Toronto FC was the first MLS team to be based in Canada.
TFC’s mascot was originally employed to ward off Seagulls, rather than to support; however upon arrival proved so popular that she became a regular fixture. BMO Field staff originally brought Bitchy the Hawk (a female Harris’s hawk) to stop seagulls attacking. But she became the club mascot due to the fans’ delight soon after and has been ever since.
Owned by Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd, Toronto FC’s head coach is Greg Vanney, and CEO is Bill Manning. The team play at BMO Field, Toronto, Ontario.
In 2005, MLS allocated Toronto to a new team, and the name “Toronto FC” was released on May 11, 2006, after the name received 40% of the online fan votes. Some other options for names included “Toronto Northmen”, “Toronto Reds” and “Inter Toronto FC”.
On May 12, 2007, Toronto FC won their first game with a 3-1 win over Chicago Fire. Then, in 2009, Toronto climbed the 2009 Canadian Championship with a 6-1 win over Montreal Impact. This was followed by several more Canadian titles over the years, with wins in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, 2017 and 2018, making a total of 7 Canadian Cup Titles.
On December 9, 2017, Toronto FC became the first Canadian team to win an MLS Cup , with a 2-0 defeat over Seattle. By doing this, they also became the first team to win a domestic treble.

Opened in 2007, BMO Field is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is managed by Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, and owned by the City of Toronto. It is the largest soccer-specific stadium in Canada.
The stadium can seat over 40,000 people, with the record for an MLS game being 36,045 fans watching the 2016 MLS Cup Final.
On April 28, 2007, Toronto FC played their first game at the stadium. It has hosted several MLS Cups, as well as the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. In addition to soccer, the stadium has been used for Rugby, Lacrosse, Hockey and various concerts.
Home Kit
Toronto FC’s jersey is produced by Adidas, as are all MLS kits. The jersey is a simplistic red, with slightly darker red trimmings on the shoulders and neck. Since starting in 2007, the team has been sponsored by the Bank of Montreal (BMO). The away jersey utilises one of the team’s secondary colours, grey, with a faint geometric design on the front, and details of traditional red accenting the grey. The jersey also features a Toronto flag. The team’s logo is a white shield featuring a dark grey “T” in the middle, and filled with various shades of grey and white. It has a red border and a red banner across the front with ‘Toronto’ on it. In addition, on top of the shield is a stylised maple leaf, a widely-recognised symbol of Canada.
